Alexandra Mikhailovna Shura Kollontai (March 31 1872 – March 9, 1952) was Alexandra Kollontai was a Russian revolutionary who was appointed commissar of social welfare after the October Revolution and later one of the world’s first woman ambassadors. She fought for abortion rights, secularized marriage, and paid maternity leave—and considered “comradely love” to be a political force. Alexandra Kollontai was a writer, a revolutionary, and after the 1917 October revolution the people’s commissar of social welfare and one of the first female ambassadors in the world. She worked to introduce crucial reforms for women’s liberation: such as abortion rights, secularized marriage, and for paid maternity leave; and considered “comradely love” to be a political force. Alexandra Kollontai was a writer, a revolutionary, and after the 1917 October revolution the people’s commissar of social welfare and one of the first female ambassadors in the world.
